Meredith Koop, a personal assistant to the first lady, really has taken over the job. "Ms. Koop's responsibilities include advising the first lady on her wardrobe and acting on her behalf in arranging for purchases, including considering the best offered price and buying on discount if discounts are available," a rep for the White House tells the Washington Post. Koop is not supposed to "give press interviews or otherwise interact with the media," the rep added.
The Post has detailed accounts of how the FLOTUS's highly secretive clothing operations run. Basically, Koop sorts through all the clothes Michelle gets sent, commissions things, and tries to get Michelle a discount on everything she wears, which she does actually purchase, the paper is told. Unsurprisingly, Michelle usually gets a discount.
