Heading Down Under

It was announced this week that President Obama and family will visit Indonesia and Australia, mid March. Already the Aussies are abuzz about the First Lady and what she will wear.

THE first lady of fashion is jetting into Canberra and the who, what and wear of her visit is what many Australian women will want to know.

For the first time since Jackie Kennedy, a US first lady has captured the world's attention with her style and grace. But while Mrs Kennedy was known for her love of Chanel, Givenchy and spending big, it is Michelle Obama's ability to mix the high and the low that has endeared her to women around the world.

A $40 shift from the chain store H&M one day, an Alexander McQueen suit the next. The only faux pas Mrs O. has made during her first term was gently touching the Queen on the back in a state visit last year. But even that was overshadowed by what she wore to Buckingham Palace: a black Azzedine Alaia cardigan and a Toledo dress. Simple yet chic.
