Add the first family to the millions of Americans who are flocking to see James Cameron's "Avatar."
President Barack Obama, Michelle Obama and their daughters, Malia, 11, and Sasha, 8, went to see the digital 3-D version of the movie the morning of New Year’s Eve at a theater close to where they’re spending the holidays in Hawaii.
The Obamas and a group of family members and close friends will have one of the complex's 10 movie theaters to themselves — it is closed to the public, and no press were allowed in. The early-morning screening was arranged specially for the first family before Thursday’s regular showings begin, according to a pool report.
The Obamas arrived at the mall where the movie is playing shortly before 9:30 a.m. Hawaii time, an hour and a half before the first scheduled showing at 10:45 a.m.
